Fic: Lessons, TezuRyo, 150 words

I've been trying to write Tezuryo, and struggling with characterization, especially the way anime and manga Tezuka are actually not quite the same person, and with the differences in the Tezuka-Ryoma relationship. Anyway, I got out this drabble and a half today. Still not sure if this fits, but it's a start.

Lessons
The second time Tezuka goes to Kyuushuu to recover from an injury, he finally learns the lesson he’d tried to teach Momoshiro three years before. He learns to stop letting his shoulder take the strain of worrying about his elbow; his knee the strain of worrying about his ankle. He learns to stop thinking about parts of himself as weaker than others, and needing to be protected; he learns that he is stronger when all of him takes the burden, and so is his team.

He gets better, and he goes home. His first day back, at morning practice, he asks Echizen to play a match with him. On Saturday, at the clay courts where they played their first match, he kisses Echizen over the net after the first game (1-0, Echizen). They don’t finish their match. It doesn’t matter. They know there will be other days, and other matches.

Very sweet little drabble, definitely go for longer next time though!

Never let uncertainty stop you from posting ficcage, if people find it out of character they tend to say, but at the same time fanfiction is a matter of interpretation and you should be writing because you enjoy it that way. If other people enjoy it too then that's just a bonus and good for them. Tezuka to me in the series is always very decisive, so while I can understand when he's written as morally conflicted because he's very proper, I can equally see him being a lot more dominant, which I suspect some of my fics will end up reflecting.

What is Tez like in the manga out of interest? I'm a series girl.

Not sure I should be replying to your question, but I like manga!Tezuka more. :)

I feel that Tezuka is more human (or non-toast like) in the manga. He shows more expression when he's playing matches, and there are parts of the manga where he is indecisive.

This is such a sweet little drabble. :) I feel that you characterized manga!Tezuka very well in a such a short piece--I got that impression of his character after I read the Kyuushu arc in the manga.

That explains a bit then, shall have to take a look at the manga at some point. Thanks for answering.

Fluff and sweet~
XD

Thanks ^_^ And of course you should go for it. I look forward to seeing what you write!

You're welcome!

[identity profile] kallistei.livejournal.com 2006-05-11 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

Mm, my uncertainty was more because I'm not sure myself whether this is what Tezuka would do, rather than worry about other people's view of his character. I'm not sure exactly who he is, yet, but I suspect the only way to find out is to keep writing him.

[livejournal.com profile] prillalar has an interesting post about it over here (http://prillalar.livejournal.com/248825.html"), which goes into much more detail than I've got room in comments! Do have a look at the manga, though. I think I prefer it to the anime, actually, but ymmv.

Yay! Thank you ^_^

P.S. Tezuka in your icon is kind of hypnotic. *stares*

[identity profile] kallistei.livejournal.com 2006-05-11 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I probably will XD

[identity profile] kallistei.livejournal.com 2006-05-11 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you ^_^ I'm glad you felt that way.

Thank you! I've been very bad about commenting to all the fic I've read recently, so I may not have said this, but I've really liked your stories, and I'm glad you liked mine ^_^

[identity profile] kallistei.livejournal.com 2006-05-11 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hee. Thanks!

It definitely sounds an interesting difference. At the moment I'd like to say I prefer the anime but then I haven't looked at the manga at all, it's just that the anime does seem more Tezryo from accounts of it and I like the way Tezuka is in the anime, it gives me a lot of ideas that lose potential if he's easily likely to be more open.

[identity profile] kallistei.livejournal.com 2006-05-11 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
The anime is definitely more focused on the Tezuka-Ryoma relationship, but the manga is readable in a Tezuryo light too. Also, the art becomes really very good. Re: Tezuka, more open doesn't mean he's actually open at all! And again, it's a matter of perspective. Because I read the manga first, I think I may actually see more in Tezuka in the anime than I might have otherwise. Similarly, because your Tezuka so far is the anime version, you may not think he's more open in the manga.

awsome. i'm thinking of taking up tezuryo w/ some rough drafts right now.
i thought he learned that lesson a long time ago.
